CDS Individuals Meet with Local Assemblyman, David Koon

Latrice & David, two individuals supported by CDS, met with local Assemblyman, David Koon on Friday, November 6th to discuss how the proposed State Budget cuts would affect them.

Latrice stated that if the budget cuts are made, she will lose some of the independence that she currently has because she won't be able to go into the community.  She asked Mr. Koon to find it in his heart to not support these cuts as they are morally wrong.

Assemblyman Koon responded that he would do his best. He reassured Latrice "I'm on your side."

Latrice added that as president of the Handicapables, they try to advocate for people with developmental disabilities because some people cannot speak for themselves, so we have to speak for them.

The Handicapables is a group formed at CDS whose mission is to speak on behalf of people with developmental disabilities. We believe you can do whatever you want if you put your mind to it and believe in yourself.

Assemblyman Koon agreed that nobody is handicapped.

He added that he will do his best and fight hard for Latrice.
