Geno Takes Flight at CDS
Thursday, March 26, 2009
A year ago, Geno Fisher, age 22, dreamed of graduating from a local high school, working and earning a paycheck.
Ten months later, with the help of CDS (Continuing Developmental Services), Geno's dream has been realized.
He is now working independently in Unistel, CDS' Employment Program.
After successfully completing the Transition Program at CDS, Geno's skills and positive attitude proved he was ready for the paid work environment and now works in CDS' prevocational workshop in Webster, on a job for Harris RF Communications.
During Geno's time in CDS' Transition Program, he spent a portion of his day training in Unistel on jobs for Johnson and Johnson as part of a training group with a supervisor, supporting him in every aspect of his work environment.
In early March, Geno and his support team at CDS realized he was ready for his 'transition' and successfully completed a two week assessment.
Tom Lynch, Unistel Manager & Geno's Supervisor, commented, "He's a big plus for Unistel, very conscientious, and a hard worker."
Geno's other dream is to become a Biologist, Paleontologist or Archeologist. He enjoys going to the movies, playing video games and visiting the Seneca Park Zoo and Rochester Museum & Science Center. He's very involved in CDS' Recreation Program and receives Service Coordination from CDS.
